Public Safety in the Healthcare Environment

This Anode Technical Institute course builds foundational knowledge of public safety responsibilities in healthcare technology management. Students examine electrical hazards, leakage current, and safety testing concepts in the context of NFPA 99 and IEC 60601. Coursework addresses infection prevention, equipment decontamination, hazardous materials, and radiation and laser safety. Simulated hands-on labs emphasize risk recognition, safe work practices, documentation, and escalation without exposing students to energized equipment or hazardous agents. Students also practice responding to recalls and safety alerts, documenting incidents, and protecting patient information, culminating in a capstone safety-response project. The course supports preparation for the CBET credential awarded by AAMI; Anode Technical Institute is not affiliated with or endorsed by AAMI.
